Parent Visa - Subclass 103, 143
Key requirements for this visa
- Sponsorship
- You must be sponsored by your child who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- Balance-of-family test
- Either ½ your children or the majority of your children live permanently in Australia
- Health Requirement
- You must meet certain health requirements, this includes all dependent family members included in your application
- Character Requirements
- To meet the character requirements you must be able to provide a police certificate for each country you've lived in
- Assurance of Support
- An Assurance of Support and an assurance of support bond must be provided. Lodgement of this bond is not required until just before the visa is granted

The Parent visa (subclass 103) lets parents live permanently in Australia if they have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia, there can be up to a 30-year waiting list for this visa. Whilst similar in its requirements, the Contributory parent visa (subclass 143) has a significantly shorter waiting time for a higher fee.
